And the links were broken other ways too. Now
We traditionally do a page of screenshots from users for releases;
what if we got them from FOG (or gnomesupport.org?) this time instead
of the normal p.g.o call for screenshots? Would make them feel more
involved/special.

I absolutly agree with the goal! I'm just not sure if the screenshot
thingie is the proper way.
For example, a 'Show your screenshot' thread on gnomesupport.org started
months ago, I believe (it's down right now). Even if not, at least
