Here is a link to a good article by Greg Grandin about a new Chilean documentary about the role of Chilean economists trained by Milton Friedman and Arnold Harberger in the murderous regime of Pinochet. Almost everywhere in the world, neoliberal economics holds sway. And beneath the fancy theorizing that claims to show the beneficence of unregulated markets is the reality of authoritarian, police-state, and fascistic state power, necessary for the "successful" implementation of market supremacy. The future will surely be one of fierce class struggle, often occluded by ethnic strife and religious extremism, as well as the endless wars generated by the imperial powers and their stooges in poor nations. All in a context of rapid and life-threatening environmental catastrophes. Barbarism is just getting started.
