Here's another to add to the Russian neo-imperialism list, alongside Gazprom: According to FT, Sberbank "is the largest bank in Russia and Eastern Europe, and the third largest in Europe." Pretty impressive. It is 51% owned by the state Central Bank of Russia, so it is a mixed private / state capitalist property. It has financial investments in foriegn banks in Central Europe and Turkey, with direct investment into the usual suspects: Russian energy, telcom and military industries. Interestingly Sberbank appears to have had a continuous 'corporate' existence throuought the Soviet period. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sberbank_of_Russia -Matt <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sberbank_of_Russia#cite_note-Lex-1> ________________________________________________ Send list submissions to: Marxism@lists.csbs.utah.edu Set your options at: http://lists.csbs.utah.edu/options/marxism/archive%40mail-archive.com
