to seek the Green Party nomination for President.
I’m writing to you because of your support when I ran for governor. I
need your help with an important decision — should I seek the Green
Party nomination for president?
Because of my credentials as a Green Party leader and experienced
candidate, a good number of Greens around the country have asked me to
run for the 2020 Green Party nomination.
/We know that //2020 will be a tough one for Greens /because of the
hatred for Donald Trump and the fear of his reelection.
But, even in what will be a difficult election, I see opportunities to
grow the Green Party, put new issues on the agenda and show why a strong
Green Party is essential as we stand for issues neither of the Wall
Street parties will consider but are necessities for the people and planet.
/The 2020 Green presidential campaign is critically important as the
United States and planet are facing multiple crisis situations. /We are
the only party with a real, detailed Green New Deal that confronts the
climate crisis, has plans to deal with the economic insecurity of most
Americans and end the never-ending wars as well as extreme military
spending.
We are the only party that will confront the unfair economy, wealth
divide and deeply embedded racism that has haunted the United States for
hundreds of years. We need to run a campaign that demonstrates a
candidate can stand outside of corrupt systems of power to offer
powerful new solutions for economic, racial and environmental justice as
well as an end to US imperialism.
My supporters and I envision a campaign centered around two goals:
building the Green Party and advancing an ecosocialist platform that
promotes the real Green New Deal. If I run my goals will be to expand
Green Party ballot access, train Green organizers throughout the
country, and encourage thousands of people to run for local office in
2020 and beyond so we become a viable political party. We will put the
issue of an ecosocialist Green New Deal on the political agenda as well
as confront the need to end the destructive US empire that causes chaos
around the world.
*What Do You Think — Should I Run?*
The purpose of the Exploratory Committee is to see if there’s enough of
a groundswell of support among Greens for me to run for the Green
nomination for President—much less put all my energy for 18 months into
crisscrossing the nation as the 2020 Green nominee.
