Few events in Syria have attracted as much attention as the alleged chemical weapon attack on the town of Khan Shaykhun <http://www.npr.org/sections/parallels/2017/04/05/522093672/the-view-from-khan-shaykhun-a-syrian-describes-the-attacks-aftermath>. The callous use of biological agents to target civilians is a “crime against humanity <http://www.abc.net.au/tv/qanda/txt/s4635101.htm>” and a serious violation of international law <http://www.un.org/apps/news/story.asp?NewsID=56499#.WQm8ANLytEY>, according to human rights experts. Far less attention has been given to the Syrian government’s targeting of health-care facilities in rebel territory. This ruthless strategy, which also constitutes a crime against in humanity, has made it impossible for humanitarian organisations to provide care for injured soldiers and civilians in some cases. The Syrian American Medical Society <https://www.sams-usa.net/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/UN-fail-report-07-3.pdf> reports that at least 168 attacks on medical facilities were carried out in the second half of 2016. These injured at least 80 medical staff and killed 26. This adds to an estimated death toll of over 800 medical personnel since the conflict began. https://theconversation.com/the-syrian-war-is-normalising-the-weaponisation-of-health-care-77105 _________________________________________________________ Full posting guidelines at: http://www.marxmail.org/sub.htm Set your options at: http://lists.csbs.utah.edu/options/marxism/archive%40mail-archive.com
