Yes this patch fixes things, which is really great, I've started to get used
to this bug but its a big annoyance, please apply the patch to CVS.

Something important I forgot to mention in my previous comment,
the current build of mc in fedora-rawhide (4.6.1a) hangs when the timeout
condition happens without in the patch, instead of the old no where to
fallback behaviour. This hang luckily
