What sort of materials do you wish to scan, in what order of magnitude? Also it
would depend on whether the scans need to be archival grade digital surrogates.
Assuming that it's thousands of A4 pages you may find something in the Fujitsu
ScanSnap range.
If I'm doubt, consult a conservator
I hear the NSA have lots of experience in this area...

Are you looking to bring this operations in-house, or just use a service
to do the scanning? Do you want to store the documents in a document
management system?
