Synopsis:
Indonesia is currently affected by many serious conflicts, arising for a
variety of reasons, including ethnic, religious and regional tensions.
Frequently, these conflicts have resulted in serious violence; moreover,
violent conflict in Indonesia appears to be increasing. This book presents
important new thinking on violent conflict in Indonesia looking at the nature
of violence, and at the reasons for violence breaking out, considering a range
of particular conflicts in detail. It goes on to examine vital questions
concerning the way in which violence in Indonesia is represented in the media,
and explores ways in which violent conflicts could be resolved or prevented.
Overall, it considers how violent conflict in Indonesia is shaping, and is
shaped by, Indonesian society and politics more widely, and the Indonesian
state.
