Proton-K rocket puts Russian telecom satellite into orbit

MOSCOW, June 25 (Itar-Tass) -- The Russian Express AM 3 latest-generation telecommunication satellite was put into the planned orbit on Saturday.

The satellite launched with the heavy Proton K booster from Baikonur at 23:41 Moscow time on Friday came into the target orbit at 06:15 Moscow time, a Roskosmos source told Itar-Tass.

There is stable communication with the satellite. Its onboard systems are working as normal, the source said.

The Express AM 3 is designed to provide such services as digital television and radio broadcasting, telephone and video communication, data transmission, access to the Internet and creation of VSAT-technology communication networks.

It is the fifth satellite of the Russian Express AM spacecraft series.

The Krasnoyarsk-based Reshetnev scientific and production centre developed the satellite together with the French Alcatel Space company for the Russian Space Communication corporation.
