As I'm still cleaning out the engine and dumping the oil every 2000 kms,
M1 at $7.50 per litre is little pricey. Once things look cleaner, I may
switch over, but the old gasser's done well on dino, making it to 356,000
kms, and probably getting the best care it's even had in it's life now, that
think my manual says either a 10/40 or 15/40 dino can be used pretty much
year round while getting down to down to some pretty cold temps, as long as
it doesnt' get too hot. Here we have a big spread, going up to 40c in the
summer and down to -35 some winter nights. Even with 20/50 and -22, it

I changed the oil in a '77 Super Beetle the other day. The car has
5,196 documented miles on it, and the oil was last changed at a VW
dealer 1000 miles ago in 1988. It had been changed twice before that
and the car sat for 15 years until recently.
Imagine my surprise to find the oil screen

Sure, but when that's been done, that part of the exhaust will still get
clogged up. The OM617 didn't get the recall either... The local dealer
recommended something that I do not recall.

What did it look like? 911s with certain brands of oils a number of years
ago, would produce engine honey. Just water that didn't seem to burn
off. I remember dumping the oil in my 911 once and getting all this creamy
looking crap in the bottom of the oil tank. I changed brands, but kept the
