The changes are very preliminary - this build is likely to work on less platforms than before. Use the 2.4.9.3 distribution if you are not prepared to deal with this.
I'll be adjusting this further in the coming weeks based on feedback and through tests on the platforms I use myself, and am soliciting patches & suggestions on how to further improve things. Simplifications would be even better, especially drastic ones!
