Walter,
Did you find out anything on the tonight's Ebay auction for the so-called new
meteorite in Georgia??

Maybe we'll find out after the bidding ends tonight at 12:30 AM PST ? ;)
John
It does not look like a meteorite!!! He sent me pics and it does not
resemble a meteorite in the slightest. It looked more like slag.

Hi John and all,
A couple of years back there were people selling South Carolina Meteorites which were

something new. No pictures and the weight was half of what was stated on the auctions

messosiderite looking specimen and the other a pallasite looking should originate and
both be stony-irons? It seems too odd to be true and I am wondering that a lot more

I would not bid on this unless catagorically
classified by one that is very knowledgealbe regarding
meteorites.
It is amazing how many samples that I get with some
home town univeristy prof testamony that the specimen
in question is a meteroite.

Steve, Al, Tom, Rob and others,
Amen to all that was said. Either the high bidder knows something we don't
know or they have money to burn, or they are ready for a big fight if it is
junk. I say...good luck...hope it turns out to be the real deal. However this
is a poor way of going about it's
Hi all, I emailed him at the beginning of his auction and told him he should
wait the few weeks for the results. It sure is a gamble bidding on this.

Hi All,
By bidding on the item or other items people have that haven't been tested, proven, it
rewards those putting on non-meteorites and opens the flood gates for many more. If
every other specimen is a meteorwrong, how effectively will be be able to sell items
in the future.

John,
That one on ebay was supposedly found in South Carolina. The one from
Georgia was supposedly from,
well, Georgia. They are two different states :-)
As an aside, the person who won that auction is either incredibly
knowledgeable about meteorites or ...
