The other day at breakfast with Dr. Peter Jenniskens, I bet him a $1
that this meteor went Puff during the explosion (three break ups???),

and burning it to less than dust where no big stones (Kilo sized) are going

Nothing I can see in the strewn (on the ground) really even
This is a fragile meteorite, while there is little doubt that the strew field
is large and thousands of pieces are on the ground, I also believe that there
are unlikely to be many larger pieces. I think most of it shattered into dust
and small pieces. It is much more fragile than Murchison or
Hi Gang,
I think this theory is not too far off the mark. Imagine if Tagish
Lake had been smaller pieces and spread out over the Sutter's Mill
strewnfield. Much of it would be pulverized. Did anyone catch any
photos of the dust cloud? I've seen some photos, but nothing yet that
shows a dust

Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone has a developed a how to guide for caring for
this meteorite.
I've heard it should be refrigerated to keep bacteria from growing on
it , but i also heard, freezing it damages the crystals.
I'm also curious, doesn't bacteria grow on everything and all
meteorites
It's on Peter Jenniskens web page.

Hi Mike,
The quick answer from me would be to pack it up and mail it to me as quickly as
possible!! ;-)
Just kidding of course, glad you were able to buy a piece from a lucky finder!
Best Regards,

First you need to decide what you want to do with the meteorite. If you plan
on selling/donating it to a research lab, university, etc. then follow the
guidelines at http://asima.seti.org/sm/ (see bottom) until you get it to the
proper institution of your choice. If you plan on keeping it or

here are few slices produced from a Tatahouine. The paralell lines are now saw

Dear List Members,
I have 54 auctions ending in a few hours. All were started at just 99 cents
with no reserve. A lot of them do not even have an opening bid yet, so more
than likely, several collectors are going to get these way below my costs.
It looks like several bargains are to be had
Hi Mike and all!
The real truth is all of them are already contaminated.
Teflon bags are IMO the best for transport and any kind of handling. A
glass desiccator a really good idea for storage! You can be creative with
jars and make some cool long term displays if you have a place where you
I made a Garmin (Ver 3) map of all the finds if anyone wants it.

Aloha,
I have good news to share with the meteorite community. My stolen meteorites
have been found and have made their way home. Two months ago i discovered them
missing from my office at the Institute for Astronomy, and reported the crime
to the local police and FBI. Both were helpful, but
Great news Gary!

Glad you got them back!

I had a lot of requests, so I made a web page instead.
It includes a picture of the current filed, a Garmin GDB file and a Google

Enjoy!

If you go a bit further 'up the hill' the camera location seems to be right
and must be close to this:
35°58'22.78N , 118°28'05.46W
The roughly calculated azimuth of the fireball from the camera location
seems to be right as well.

Hi All,
Just wondering what the total weight is to date for the Mifflin fall in
Wisconsin?
And---has the bogus Mifflin ever been totally eliminated from the real
quantity out there---or is there still some questions about some of it??
Thanks.

Hi Laurence,
I just finished talking to Carl Agee and Mike Miller. It seems that

That means I am free to trade or sell my 9.120 gram. So, lets meet
tomorrow to see if we can come up with a trade that works for

Howdy all
There are a few people keeping track of the Coloma/Lotus/SM
meteorite fall with maps, and let me give a hat tip to Peter Jenniskens
for keeping up with the meteorites. He has a regularly updated list of
these meteorites with masses and find locations:
http://asima.seti.org/sm/
Most found by roads and trails because rest is waist-high poison oak slithering
with rattlesnakes. 99% or more will never be found.
