Hello Michael and Listers
I would like to say Michael I like your Meteorite Market Trends for June 2012
and how you explain the definitions when it comes to Hammer Falls and Hammer
stones. I know this topic has been delt with many times and I am sure in the
future it will come up again but I

This is only the third fresh iron I've seen with complete gun-metal blue
fusion crust, flow lines and other ablation surface features. I think the
other two were ataxites. Awesome meteorite!

Hello Graham, All,
Krinov concluded that all of these features we call "craters" are in
fact small pits caused by the vaporization of more volatile inclusions
under the fusion crust of the iron.
In other words, you have a heat-affected zone under the surface of the
iron, and if you get a more vola
Wow! where is that from Michael/Mike? Strange that it has so many
small impacts on the oriented ablated leading edge and weird chisel
marks too? Looks like some satellite debris I've seen before but the
stoney and pyroxene inclusions plus the entry speed it would have had
seem to rule that out.

Dear Werner
Nope!!! there are no "hollow meteorites", as physics wouldn't allow
one-- and this is not a meteorite: it is a sedimentary nodule composed
of any combination of iron compounds such as
hematite/goethite/limonite -- known by its slang term "indian paint
pot" in the US.

Just for your interest; I have an actual "hollow meteorite" that was
Featured many years ago in the long extinct meteorite magazine,
"Voyage!"
If folks are interested I could put it up on a web page.

Hi Kevin and List,
Thank you for bringing up Robert Burnham's Celestial Handbooks. These
are not only classics for every star-hopping amateur astronomer from
the pre-GOTO age, but they still hold great value despite their
growing age.
There are a few parallels that can be seen between the lives
I have these and they are EXCELLENT! A true classic series!

to purchase those Burnham books.
Thanks to all for your kind attention.

Team Meteorite:
Before I offer these on eBay, I thought perhaps a list member with an
interest in astronomy might enjoy owning this trilogy of imminently
collectible hardcover books. All three are in like-new condition with
only slight creasing on the dust covers. They were published in 1978.

Hi Jim,
You're missing the fact that there's 10,000 suckers born (worldwide) every
minute and one just paid $266 for a concretion that I would have sold them
for $1.50.

Brad,
Those "martian" are just as likely to be fake as the "lunar".
Dr. Korotev is a very busy person, but Dr. Irving has kindly
volunteered to help by looking at some of those pieces, so yes, please
do mail them to Maria Haas (I will be out of town, at the Ensisheim

Daniel,
The samples I have are only "Mars" ones, not the "lunar" ones. I have been
asked by another list member too send him my samples so they could potentially
be used as evidence.

Hi Gang,
Two bits from the peanut gallery... I have to agree with Capt. Blood
on this one. From a collector's standpoint, it is a valid term. Is
it officially-accepted nomenclature used in abstracts and journals?
No. Is it a term that relays information about the meteorite? Yes.
