I wrote about this fall in the August 1992 issue of Sky Telescope and
included a picture of the crater. apparently hit as a single mass (no
strewnfield), despite witness reports of multiple explosions. it fell in a
freshly planted wheat field and splashed bright-toned ejecta
Have just experienced the Sutter Mill hunt locally and lived to see all the
news story that came out of it and if gave me the same feeling. That is typical

Wolf-Simeon lecture locally. She would agree with you about the
Hoax may have been a strong word, Phil, because it implies motive, but
you are right-on to flag it nonetheless. Sloppy and overzealous would be
the words that come to my mind. As a scientist, I was trained to be
neither. Clearly, they made a mistake, or overlooked something. That's

Appears to be legitimate. On the calendar tab near the top, select 9
July, 2012. On table of contents, select 07 Region and click on
the relevant article in the lower left corner of the left-hand page.
Photo looks good, story sounds good.
