You size requirement would produce a very light disk so the work to value
ratio will be way off.
If you find these they will cost a lot more then their gram weight value
since it's a lot of work to cut, polish and etch a disk especially when
it's going to weigh 4-6 grams.

on a flatbed scanner. I typically use 1200 dpi

I am processing some Uruacu and some of the pieces have huge shiny black
inclusions that almost have a mirror like reflective surface.
Does anyone know what these are, you can see a lot of them in this 354 gram

I etched a few pieces of Uruacu and Toluca today and wanted to post them
here before I listed them on ebay.

To qualify it must be at least 51mm as measured at what would be the 3
center axes of the sphere.

Recently I received 3 new spheres for my collection: Uruacu, Black Onaping
one made from a brick from Nininger's Meteorite Museum.
Of the 3, the Uruacu is my favorite but I'm really glad I was able to add an
impact melt specimen to the shelf and I'm equally happy about the Nininger
Sphere
This week I added 3 new spheres to my collection and I plan to do a huge web
site update Friday.
But I had to show this beauty off now.
One failed attempt and a lot of work went into this sphere and the whole
process was quite stressful but the end result made it all worth while.

Some of you may know that I collect 50mm Meteorite Spheres.
Since there are not a lot of them available I had to learn how to make them
myself, part of the process is cutting the rough material into a sphere
rough.
I have 2 processes, one I use a core bit to create a 2.080 core which is

For Chondrites I use a 10 x .030 diamond blade

I'm in the middle of processing my 3.4kg Toluca and I ended up with a
beautiful end cut
I wasn't going to sell a piece this big but I figured it had such a nice
shape it would be a shame to slice it up, so I polished and etched it and I
was shocked at how amazing it turned out.

About 1/3 of it will be used to make my sphere rough but I should have about
1500 grams of slices and end cuts
I made 2 cuts today which produced a 54 gram end cut and a 51 gram slice

course octahedrite.

I received a real nice looking 3.4kg Toluca from Andi today.
I plan to cut it up and use the core as a rough for a 50mm Sphere
But it's almost to pretty to cut up so I might look into swapping it for an

Those pictures are incredible.
Normally I don't really appreciate the subtle differences in the fusion
crusts of the different meteorites but this one is not so subtle, it's like
a smack in face.

I can't say for sure but I bet my saw wouldn't have a problem with them.
After all I can cut the hardest irons with little effort and most condrites
cut like butter.
However, my blade is .060 thick so cut loss would be greater.

Clean it with Bar Keepers Friend available at Wal-Mart.
It is a cleanser type cleaner that comes in a gold can similar in size and
shape to a can of Comet.
All you have to do is dampen the slice with hot TAP water, rub on a thick

Sounds like you're off to an awesome start.
I'm on the fence about making a sphere from Muonionalusta unless it becomes
more plentiful and less expensive.

Has anyone else noticed that their etched iron meteorites look better as
they age?
I have 4 etched iron spheres and all of them seem to look better
I might even re-photograph them for my web site.

I have a really nice slice of Seymchan that weighs 195 grams.
It has the nicest inclusions of any slice that I cut from the original slab.
This is a large hand sized slice that's about 5mm thick and looks great from
both sides
On the end that comes to a point you can see a huge scheibershite
I have a bunch of Seymchan and Dronino Dust that I sell in 50 gram
increments for $5
However, my dust isn't really dust, it's the tiny chips created when the
milling machine cuts my spheres.

I have 2 slices available for $2.5 per gram
These are the best slices I have and they have a good surface to weight
ratio
The first is a 14 gram slice that is cut on both sides. It's predominantly
brown but has a super dark blue area and a full crusted edge.
I have a 44 gram and a 13 gram end cut and a bunch of small fragments
totaling 12 grams available.

He made a 158 gram NWA 2828 sphere from a 599 gram whole speciman and returned

I just received my 50mm NWA 2828 sphere and I am extremely please with how
it turned out.
It has a nice baby blue color and very little brown.
I wear this phase out but once again this picture doesn't do the specimen
justice.
I love collecting these but I hate photographing them.
A by product of having a sphere made is scraps.
My NWA 2828 sphere started out as a 599 gram whole specimen which had a core
removed so I was left with a 235 gram whole specimen with a big hole in the
center.

I'm a member of 2 meteorite related online forums that do OK
I was a member of 2 other online forums that have closed down due to lack of
participation.
I even created one but gave up on it when I found another that had decent
traffic.
So I have to ask why the internet
I don't make my own Chondrite or Stone Spheres, I have a shop in Texas make
them for me and they did a super job on this one.
It's impossible to capture the beauty of this sphere with a photographs so
I'll describe it the way the sphere maker described it to me the day he

I have 4 very small slices of Sikhote-Alin available in the following gram
weights: 9gr, 8gr, 7gr 3gr
These were created when I took a regular slice and cut it into a 50mm x 50mm
