I have extensive experience with Pallasites having collected them since the 1990s . My all-time favorite is Esquel. The Esquel had a clear coat finish applied to it and I saw one small rust spot appear. I removed the coating and polished it properly and it has been trouble-free ever since.

Hello, I believe it depends on the pieces and where they were found. I understand that some were found on salt-flats. I have a couple that I bought in June from Mike Farmer. One was cut in two halves, no special treatment, no varnish or lacquer. My customers are not reporting any problems.

My advice is to stay away from any sliced pieces with a lacquer or clear-coat surface. It is sign that shortcuts were taken in its preparation. Proper polishing reduces the surface area on cut pieces of any meteorite aiding in the prevention of "lawrencite disease." Not only that, these
