[meteorite-list] New California meteorite found!

2012-04-25 Thread Bernd V. Pauli
Hello Robert, Brien and all of you lucky and happy finders!

Wow! Sincere congratulations on your Californian "gold rush" finds!
Such a fresh and scientifically important CM fall and its immediate
recovery will surely have a tremendous impact on meteorite science.
I can hardly wait to see it compared to Murchison and other CM's!

Cheers,

Bernd

Re: [meteorite-list] New California meteorite found!

2012-04-24 Thread almitt2

Greetings all,

Congrats on the find Robert. Wondering what the price will be on this
material. If new falls of ordinary chondrites are going for over
$100/gram, a CM should go for 5 to 10 times more. Hopefully there will
be a great amount of material found and the price will be affordable to
all collectors big and small.

Best to all!

--AL Mitterling

Quoting "Sean T. Murray" :

It is an honor to announce that, at 11:00 am local, Robert Ward was
the first to recover a stone from the April 22, 2012, California
fireball -- which was evidently generated by a large, carbonaceous
CM mass. Robert is now responsible for the initial recovery of
two-out-of-three-ever California witnessed falls, including Red
Canyon Lake.

Congratulations, to Robert!

Amazing! Robert, if you're inclined, please contact meI spent the day
3 miles north-west of Coloma...steep, tall 12-30" grasses when the terrain
allows. I live an hour away and could spend days searching...and probably
will. We should team up.

An obviously dramatical witnessed CM fall, that's really the stuff dreams
are made on!

The 1st observed Martian fall in 50 years (Tissint) and now a significant
CM fall in California -  wow, what a great time to be involved in
meteoritics.

Congratulations Robert!
