This is a known issue, because .Net only allows marshalling strings to dlls either as utf-16 unicode or 'windows' ANSI, and GTK dlls wrapped by GTK# are expecting utf-8 strings. Lots of code to change in GTK# (in the API generator and in the custom wrappings) to make it work correctly with .NET,
