What a wonderful weather week it has been in the northwest. It will still
continue
Hi All—Yesterday John Holden and I photographed a Merlin about two miles
west of the 180th Street Marsh in Dakota County. We assume this bird is the
Prairie race of the Merlin. The photo is on my blog, along with a photo of
a Richardson’s Merlin taken a few years ago in Rice Co. My understanding
Mixed flock of Rusty/Brewers/Red-Winged Blackbirds along with a large number of
European Starlings visiting the yard this morning. Good views and confirmed by
sound from iBird Pro. Rusty Blackbird song is reminiscent of coqui on St John.

Ron Erpelding, Mark Junghans and I just found a female Long-tailed Duck on Lake
Emily in Crow Wing County. The duck was seen from Hwy 6 just north of the boat
access.
