I have never birded around the Metro area. I will have a couple of hours
Saturday morning, leaving from Eagan, before heading north to the Iron Range.
Any suggestions where I should should spend my time? Any particular spots?
Many thanks.

I saw a beautiful male Cardinal outside my bedroom window this morning. First

I am getting close to buying my next digital camera. Love my old
Canon A520, a longer zoom lens would be great. Don't want an SLR,
much too big. I am looking at a Canon PowerShot SX210IS (old model
200) or Canon PowerShot SX130IS (old model 120). Have you used either
of those?
Following the post about Bald Eagles - Thursday near Virginia I saw 2
crows flying in formation and doing some acrobatics. I thought
perhaps they were practicing for the Thunderbirds. Seems early and
cold, but maybe it is getting time for Cupid.

Thanks for all the replies. The one definite suggestion is
ibirdexplorer for iPhone or iTouch. My husband has it on his iTouch,
it's dandy. I tried to find it for Droid, no luck. I did find a
Facebook forum, looks like ibird/whatbird is getting ready to test a
beta version of ibird for
It's time for a new cell phone. I might get just a phone, but maybe a
smart phone? We're on Verizon, so the iPhone I want isn't an option.
Are there any birding apps available for Verizon smartphones? I
would be looking for picture and sound id mostly. Any suggestions?
Many thanks.
Today the Bohemian Waxwings are in Virginia, central St. Louis
County. Probably around 100. I saw them several different places
around town this morning, checking out the fruit trees. I haven't
seen any here in almost 2 years.

There are 2 swans on Silver Lake in Virginia, at the north end by
Seppi. I saw no yellow and no bulb, so think they are Trumpeters.
Between 2 and 3pm, still there now just after 3. There was one here
March 19. These are the only swans I have seen here. There was also
a Bald Eagle
Late yesterday afternoon, around 6-6:30, there was a Trumpeter Swan
on Silver Lake in Virginia. The lake cools our power plant so stays
partly open all winter, and is now almost all open. It was the first
swan I have seen in my 7 years here.
Yesterday was also the first day I saw Canada

A friend just called me. He says he saw a woodpecker at his cabin
on Bass Lake, south of Biwabik, in central St. Louis County. He
said he looked at it with binoculars. Details
At 5 pm today, Saturday, there is a Snow Goose, white morph adult, on
Silver Lake in Virginia, near the 9th Avenue bridge. It's with a
group of Canada and Cackling Geese. My neighbors say they saw it
earlier today grazing with the other geese in the field across the
street.
On my walk I
We are planning a trip in June. Destinations are Knoxville,
Tennessee, and Columbus, Mississippi. Any suggestions for good
birding areas there or along the way? Anything particular to look
for? Many thanks.

Allan Bier saw an Osprey flying over Giants Ridge Ski Area, near
Biwabik, central St. Louis County, at about 11 Saturday morning. He
was teaching an intermediate group of Canadian skiers when an 8-year-
old student spotted the bird. It was the first Osprey Allan has seen
this year. He
