At 4pm today there were 2 snowy owls on Becker Cty 14 near Becker Cty 9. Both
within 1/10 mile of Cty Hwy 9. Spotted on top of power line poles. Also saw a

proximity on Hamden Slough near Callaway. There were six in one mile on County

Tonight at 5:55pm there was a great gray owl on 72nd ST. NE near Remer. It was
just light enough to see his mustache. I'll assume that this is the same owl
that was there on Dec. 1, although none have been seen there since then. The

Pine grosbeaks were seen on MN 6 at mile marker 58.5, just north of Remer.
Since introducing sunflower chips to the deck railing the c. redpoll # has

MN 47 on MN 95 yesterday. There is a light post in a parking lot of a bait
shop. It was perched on the post. The person reporting it to me saw the photo

Remer less than 1 mile. North on CR 130. West on 72nd St. NE. This road
leads to the Big Sand Lake public access. The owl was near the open field on

On 11-11-14 at 4:15pm there was an adult male? snowy owl on a light pole on the
south side of US 2, west of MP 114 in front of the high school. I posted to

Yesterday afternoon there was a merlin in the same area as last year. Last
year I saw one in the same 4 square block area for several weeks. I never saw
two at a time or anything that suggested a nest site. I find it interesting
that the one yesterday was in the same block.
Not a rare bird, I know, but the first true migrant I have seen this spring. I
always get excited to see the frontrunner of things to come. Flying north over
the city of Detroit Lakes 7:35 am.

This morning I took my 3 oldest children (6, 5, 2 years old) to hunt for snowy
owls. We found 2! The first was on Becker Co 13, 1/4 mile south of Becker Co
14. It was perched on a power pole. All three kids saw it through the window
mounted spotting scope. It only took 25 minutes to find.

town of Ulen, MN.

While camping this week in the Paul Bunyan State Forest in Hubbard Co. I woke
to the call of nature at 4:05 am and was delighted to also hear the call of a
whip-poor-will. It sang continuously until about 5am when it either stopped or
was drowned out by the other bird songs. This was the

On Saturday, September 1, 2012 there was a snowy egret flying over the Otter
Tail River north of Frazee, MN in Becker County. It was associating with a
great egret. The pair circled overhead three times before flying north.

There was a eurasian collared dove on top of a utility pole in the back yard of
1313 Loring Ave. this afternoon. It was also visible to a lesser extent from

At approximately 1100 today there was a flock of approximately 40 ww crossbills
near the high school in Detroit Lakes. They were on Roosevelt Ave. feeding.
They flew east over the school. I tried following them. They were last seen
flying north along Corbett Rd. near Granger St.
I just heard from my uncle that there was a snowy owl at the public access to
Laura Lake in Cass County. Lake Laura is between Outing and Remer and west of
county 6.

Saw a flock of mallards in flight along the city beach today. One bird was
noticably larger and darker than the rest. Two hours later I saw the flock
feeding near the boat access. The large dark individual had a yellow bill and
partially green head. Body was not gray like a male mallard,
I was able to view the mallard/blackduck cross a little better ie. neither the
bird or I were moving. It is certainly a hybrid. May be backcrossed with
mallard. As it swam I could see no white on the secondaries, however the wings
were folded. The wings had some silvery color to them on top

Seeing rusty blackbirds the last 5-6 days while duck hunting in western Becker
County. They seem to have a fovorite tree to perch in about 10 yards from a

While hunting mourning doves yesterday I was lucky to have a peregrine attack
my decoy at 10 yards. He gave three attempts and flew off, seemingly
embarassed. My 3 and 4 year old girls thought it was pretty cool.

Spoke with the homeowner this afternoon. No sign of the tanager today. In
fact he said in 2.5 hours he only saw a handful of blackbirds, a redstart and
two orioles. It appears as if they've moved to greener pastures.
I birded this morning for two hours before work. 6 warblers species.
I spoke with the homeowner this morning who has been seeing the W. tanager. He
said that from 6-7am he sat on the patio (as he does every morning) watching
the birds and drinking his coffee. He DID NOT see either tanager, nor the

My daughter and I were having a wonderful time pretending to hunt the ducks on
Lake Sallie this morning in the two inches of snow that fell over night, until

Nice mix of waterfowl today including all three mergansers in one field of view
in my binoculars. That's the first time I can recall ever seeing all three in
one location, let alone associating that closely with one another. There were

While working today I was able to watch a flock of 30ish bohemian waxwings
feeding in a crab apple tree with another 30ish A. robins. I saw both species

Ave. (right by JK Marina). Still lots of yellow rumps and a couple palm

caspian terns and at least one herring gull on the JK Marina dock. Two other
large brown gulls are probable herring gulls.

the house lately, but still occasionally visiting feeders. New to yard today,
indigo bunting. As for the warblers, the age old saying; You should have been

Had a big influx of Harris' sparrows overnight. Still have white crowned,
white throated, lincoln's, clay-colored, and chipping at the feeders. Only

The RH woodpecker has returned and is present now at 3:10 pm. Thousands of
warblers on the city beach along west lake dr. Birds are on the ground and
very easily approachable. A ten foot long net would catch you hundreds of
