This evening at 4:12PM there was an adult Purple Gallinule in the Lac qui
Parle WMA in northern Lac qui Parle county. It was along 211th Ave (CR 59)
about a half-mile north of the T-junction with 370th Street. It was in the
frozen marsh right near the east side of the road. It flew up and landed
At 4:20 this after noon there was a Sprague's Pipit at the recently burned
area near the junction of CR40 CR15 at the south-central part of the
BSNWR. The bird was initially on the road shoulder then it flew and landed
in the burn. I will post a photo on the MOU recently seen page.
Shortly after
At 6PM Wednesday there was an adult California Gull at Clear Lake SW of the
town of Alberta in Stevens County. Also at Clear Lake was a 1st-cycle
Glaucous Gull standing on the ice.
Also of note were 2 White-winged Scoters on Shakopee lake in north-central
Chippewa County earlier in the day.

Nutcracker in NE Lac qui Parle County at 4:30pm this afternoon. It was in a
stand of spruce on the south side of 330th St about a quarter-mile east of
Hwy119. I will post a photo on recently seen page of the MOU site.
Also of note today was a Townsend's Solitaire that has overwintered at
Hantho
At 11am today I saw an adult gray-morph gyrfalcon flying west along CR66
near the junction with CR69 in NE LqP County. Presumably this is the same
individual that the Martins reported on December 17th about 3 miles NW of
here.

The White-eyed Vireo found yesterday by Herb Dingmann was still present in
the cedars at the same location at 1:15 this afternoon.
I found an immature Black-legged Kittiwake at the Big Stone NWR at 3:15PM
today. The bird was on the east reservoir among the tree stumps near the
Hwy75 dam. It was

original location. None of the geese could be relocated at any nearby

At about 3pm today I found an apparent Bean Goose with 18 Greater
White-fronted Geese NW of Madison, Lac qui Parle County. It was at a wetland
on the west side of 211th Ave about a quarter mile south on Hwy75 (section
12, Arena Twp.) adjacent to the Madrena WMA.

Good turnout plus the interesting weather (mid-80s on Thursday then an inch
of snow on the ground over much of the area by Saturday morning) made for
good few days of birding. 152 species were tallied on Saturday night.
Including Friday and Sunday additions 159+ species were seen in the area

this afternoon.
Later at 6:45pm I saw another immature Sabine's Gull at Lac Qui Parle Lake.
It was seen from the overlook along CR33 just SE of its junction with CR26.
It was flying NW up the lake with the large numbers of Franklin's Gulls
present.

along CR44 2 miles south of Hwy2.
While observing the shrike I stepped a few feet into the ditch and flushed
a group of rails that included 5 Soras and 3 Yellow Rails. They flew
about 30 feet and landed at the edge of the harvested wheat field along the
south side of the road.

Peder Svingen left me a message that he and Phil Chu found an adult Arctic
Tern around noon today at the Big Stone National Wildlife Refuge while
conducting a shorebird survey. My machine cut him off before he finished but
it was apparently last seen headed toward the low-flow area.

The Snowy Plover was 450 feet (not meters) north of the road at closest and
moving northeast up the channel to the next slough.

I was unable to relocate the Snowy Plover at the original location this
morning and did not see any sign of a pale plover at any of the shorebird
spots in a two mile radius. If it reappears I will post an update.

At least one male Great-tailed Grackle is still present at Engbarth slough
in NE Pipestone County.

The Tricolored Heron was still present at Black Rush Lake, Lyon County at
8:04PM, June 7th.
It was briefly seen as it flew low over the minimum maintenance road that
runs through the marsh. It came out of the eastern lobe and landed in the
larger western portion of the lake and out of sight in

Some highlights (and the few lowlights):
A lone White-faced Ibis was found in the flooded area at the north end of
the Mount Wickham area (2miles south then 2 miles east of Marietta), but was
gone later in the morning. This same area held good numbers of

of 23 ibises in section 6 of Hamlin Twp. and the first one I scoped
was the Glossy. After only about ten minutes of observation the ibises
took flight and flew 1 mile northwest and landed in another flooded
