A mixed flock of finches(40 or so) has been feeding in our yard for the past week +. It was originally redpolls, pine grosbeaks and an occasional goldfinch. This week, at least 6 pine siskins are present as well as two hoary redpolls. I clearly saw both as they battled over a seed morsel in

The pair of grosbeaks that showed up a few weeks ago recruited about 14 others- a nice mix of males and females- and today, one male evening grosbeak. When they move in to the feed bins they are enough of an army to overcome the 6 bluejay seed hogs. It doesn't take much drama to amuse us in
