Shelducks are commonly kept as domestic ducks.  I have seen at least one pond 
with them in Dakota County.

It appears to be a Ruddy Shelduck, Tadorna ferruginea. We found it first 
in our Birds of Thailand, and then googled it to get more images. There 
seems to be some variability of plummage.
