Fellow birders, The MnDNR Nongame Wildlife Program is conducting the first statewide breeding bird population assessment of Red-necked Grebes in 2008. I am asking you to report any Red-necked Grebes that you observe in June or early July and whether you observe nests, chicks, or territorial behavior. Field surveys are being conducted in areas where these birds have been known to nest in the past. The following people are working on this effort and can be e-mailed directly (e-mail addresses are in the copy line) if you observe RN grebes in their search area--
Katie Haws, Bruce Lenning and Steve Maxson--northwest Minnesota Lisa Gelvin-Innvaer--south/southwest Minnesota Randy Frederickson--Kandiyohi, Pope, Stevens counties and near areas Ben Wieland--Cass County Pam Perry, Kevin Woizeschke--Crow Wing and Douglas counties and anywhere else not covered Observations can also be sent to me and I will forward to the appropriate person. Thanks in advance for your assistance. --Pam Perry Pam Perry NR Supervisor - Ecological Resources Nongame Wildlife Lake Specialist 1601 Minnesota Drive Brainerd, MN 56401 218/833-8728 pam.perry at dnr.state.mn.us
