The rookery at The Marsh on CR 45 about 12 miles south of Owatonna had 3 Great
Blue Herons in it this evening.
It also had an eagle sitting on the edge of the rookery.

This afternoon, March 19, at The Marsh, south on CR #45, one mile north of CR
#30, 5 Great Blue Herons were at a rookery about 1/2 mile east of the pond of
The Marsh. 3 Sand Hill Cranes and a mix of waterfowl were also spotted as
well as one Meadowlark and 2 Killdeers.

Was over at Basset Creek Park in Crystal today and saw 3 Great Blue Herons
exhibiting strange
behavior. I guess they must have been juveniles. It seemed like they were being
territorial or
playing tag and vocalizing more than I have
I was on the Mississippi River between the Camden Bridge and the new Lowry
Ave Bridge and saw the newly established rookery. There was a camper on
the island even. From the east river bed without binoculars I could see at
least eight nests.

We saw at least two Great Blue herons at the Coon Rapids Dam yesterday morning.
There is a rookery there and though I haven't seen any on nests yet it could
be any day.

Yesterday, driving south on I-35, I noted that the great blue herons
have returned to their rookery on the Snake River between the 2 Pine
City exits.

We've been seeing very large numbers of great blue herons in both Lake
Vadnais and today in Lake Gervais. They are in flocks of 30 or more
birds -- probably close to 50 on Lake Gervais today. I have to think this
is due to the extreme drought situation which has dried up many of the
smaller
