25 birders gathered on Saturday, October 16th, 7:30 AM in the Dairy Queen
parking lot near Onamia to enjoy loons along the Mille Lacs Lake.
Unfortunately, the loons forgot to show up (should have called ahead). We

This morning about 10:00 A.M. I saw an adult male White-winged Scoter on Lake
Harriet. It was near the middle of the lake hanging out with a Pied-billed
grebe.
There were a couple of Common loons too, but very few other waterfowl.
Good luck.

I was driving by Lake Harriet and saw Chet with his spotting scope setup. I
stopped and asked what he was looking at. When he told I jumped out of the car
and ran over for look. The bird was in the middle of lake so a scope is needed.
It was present @ 12:49PM, Sunday, Oct 17, 2010.

The Scoter is now being seen on Lake Calhoun.

The adult male White-winged Scoter that was seen in Hennepin County on Lake
Harriet in Minneapolis this morning has relocated to Lake Calhoun also in
Minneapolis. Of interest was a Western Grebe on Harriet with 9 Pied-billed
Grebes that were not there this am when I saw the WWSC. I then swung
On my way to look for the White-winged Scoter this afternoon, I stopped by
the Rogers sewage ponds and found a Ross Goose associating with the Canada
and Cackling Geese.
I did find the White-Winged Scoter on Lake Harriet before it moved, so my
thanks to Tom Tustison for posting it.
