I was at Vadnais Lake for about an hour Sunday,11/28/2010, prior to finding the bird.  Another birder showed up and as I walked back to my camera the solitaire was on the ground drinking from a puddle of water.  It flew up into the juniper tree and we never saw it again.

The bird also came in again at 11:20 and stuck around for awhile. It seemed to come in both times today when Blue Jays came in to the feeders. Maybe because the Sharp-shinned Hawk is still around the area and the Blue Jays are loud and noisy thus alerting the sparrows when the sharpy is

Driving around Lake Harriet this afternoon, saw a strange looking mallard (at least I think it was a mallard) on the SW corner. It was very dark brown, possibly black throughout its body and head. But it had a striking white ring around its neck 1-1.5 wide. Unfortunately I did not have a
