Wanted to alert folks to a good shorebird site in Big Stone County. After
many years of stagnant water levels and carp infestation, we worked with
Ducks Unlimited last fall to install a pump at Wiley Waterfowl Production
Area. We are doing a temporary drawdown this spring, and the birds are
Lake Byllesby late afternoon yesterday (the cemetery was the better
location):
Hudsonian Godwits (at least 4)
Marbled Godwit (1)
Long-billed Dowitchers (at least 3)
Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs
Pectoral Sandpipers
Least Sandpipers
Wilson's Phalaropes
Caspian Terns (5)
Forster's Terns (13)
There's a White-faced Ibis in Dodge County on the south side of US 14 in a pond
a couple miles west of Dodge Center.

A few highlights from a brief walk around the north edge of Lake Normandale
in Bloomington-
Osprey - 1
Yellow-rumped Warbler - 5
Palm Warbler- 1
Yellow Warbler - 1
Nashville Warbler- 3
Half way done with walks, but 15 warblers in Sherburne Refuge, most on Blue
Hill Trail. Highlight was Cerulean.

Birds were observed on Prescott Lake on 5/2/2012 in Grant Co. Delaware
Township on border between section 28 and 29. Birds were located on small

There were two ibis at the old cedar ave bridge this afternoon between
1:00-2:00. One was clearly a white-faced ibis with a white border around
reddish facial skin and behind eye. The other ibis seemingly lacked any white
border around the facial skin or behind eye though it did have dull pink
With recent rains the water level of Rice Lake has risen, mudflats have
vanished and the shorebird numbers have dropped. This afternoon I counted
just under 100 shorebirds of three species. Almost all were Lesser
Yellowlegs with a few Greater Yellowlegs and two Wilson's Phalaropes.

After missing out on Minnesota birds the last 10 days but enjoying some great
birding on and near the Cumberland Plateau of east Tennessee, I was back early
this afternoon to bird mainly Rapids Lake. I did check Rice Lake first thing
this afternoon and found 1 Wilson's Phalarope, 1 Willet, and
When I found an interior whimbrel a couple of weeks ago, I recalled the
interesting research project on whimbrels based on the Eastern Shore of
Virginia. Whimbrels are being trapped there in spring and some are being
equipped with satellite transmitters. This area is a very important spring
Saw my first Blackburnian Warbler of the year. Took my breath away!
Ovenbird, Nashville, Yellow-rumped, Black throated-Green so far.
