Sunday afternoon Sharon and I took the "back roads" from Grand Marais to Two
Harbors looking for owls. We didn't find any Hawk-Owls, but we found 3 Great
Grays.

In Cook County, one was along FR 153, 0.25 mile west of the Cascade River (this
is
west of Eagle Mountain).

In Lake County, one was along CR 7, 1 mile east of FR 369 (mislabelled FR 175
in the
MN Gazetteer). The other was along Lake Co. Hwy 2, 0.2 mile north of the first
set of
railroad tracks (near the Langley River).

We were surprised to not find any owls along the Stoney River Forest Road,
which has
a lot of nice lowland spruce/tamarack forest.
