We saw about 5 horned larks at the MSP aircraft viewing area on cargo road
around 11:30 am today. They were singing a lot, one came over to us as we were
listening to their song on the iPhone. We did not see the snowy owl

While walking my pooches today, I had two flyover calling Horned Larks. This
along with the first pussy willows of the year is making me think it's an early
spring--I don't care if weather gal Belle says it's going to be below freezing
tonight--I have seen my first signs of what will be.
A friend is coming from Washington DC this weekend for a meeting. He wants to
go birding. I am the guide. He is an active birder who once lived in Wisconsin.
His Minnesota list is marked already for most of the birds one would expect to
see right now. High on his wish list are Horned Larks and

in Carver. Activity was pretty quiet at the feeders; just black birds and
chickadees and some nuthatches, but on the dirt road coming in were horned

Stearns County on Monday afternoon, 21 February, between 4:30 and 5:00 pm. I
counted in excess of 250 horned larks along a 15-20 mile stretch of that road.
Perhaps they were downed in the area because of the storm?
At least 10 Horned Larks on Friday afternoon on 100th between Kimbro
and Neal in Cottage Grove.

On a 30 mile excursion this morning in the Mapleton-Good Thunder area
frequently saw from i-6 Horned Larks at a time, generally on
windswept roads bordered by open fields. A flock of Robins was
foraging the road ditch bordering a Wildlife Management Area just east
of Good Thunder.
