Right, and must of the work has already been done, for profile sharing among separate processes. See bug http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=135137 and its dependencies.

Was not the PSM intended to work that way initially ?


It was, but the cost of having a PSM process and talking to it was not worth it. I don't know if it's still possible to share a PSM process among several separate applications.
