Thank you for your luminous post Amy.
An exciting angle not expressed is the inevitability of small local power

You can see some of the city's design for mass transit in neighborhoods.
In the early days, mass transit was pushed hard--the lots in inner city
neighborhoods are 22 to 30 feet wide. At Lake St. on the south side,
lots change to 40 feet and remain so to the city limits. That aids mass
transit.
I've come late to this discussion, but, being a renewable energy advocate with
relevant experience, I have some comments.
First, thanks to Amy for her references to ME3 and the state PUC regarding the Crown

Good points Jordan. The changes from 'old law' to 'new law' regarding drug
offenses have filled our prisons with too many non-violent, small time
dealers/users, mostly minority folks. Discrepancies in crack/powder
guidelines are also unconscionable. It's time for a change.

having much of an impact on traffic congestion in the metro area. I find
this observation interesting.

Thanks, John. Higgins. I should have known. Minneapolis DFLers don't know

Here's more info on this ridiculous fastlane proposal.
Apparently they'd like the private sector to add a lane to
existing highways that drivers would pay to use and
would cruise along at high speed in a congestion free
lane dedicated to their use.

every urban city in the nation can relate. They forsaw many of the problems
now facing urban centers today, including sprawl and one-dimensional
planning and transportation.
