I have worked on Charter school issues as a parent and Neighborhood
President. As Tony Scallon has pointed out, there are a variety of issues with
ownership and use of Park Board, Public school and the Midtown YWCA
facilities.
There has also been the issue of the opportunity for team sports for charter
school kids. At Matthews Park there has been great controversy about locking
teens out in the early evening if they are not enrolled in a specific
program-which I believe is the current policy. For Park staff it is an issue
of
capacity and ability to run quality programs during this time. It is still a
divisive issue.

I hope there is an opportunity to examine these issues and what resources
should be made available to charter and alternative schools.

Meanwhile back at the Park Board we have an opportunity to see if there will
be a power struggle forming during the Interviews of the two Superintendent
finalists.
Thanks,
Scott Vreeland Seward
