I use a pre-staging hook on the boot image and media to run a script which has

TLDR
1.- Click once:
runas /user:domain\user

2.- Launch app:
runas /user:domain\user rundll32
I'll take that as a no...
I gave it a shot but it doesn't upload anything. I'll see if I can update it to
work as CM12 still has the 100 item limit.

I'd suggest using the right-click tools for ConfigMgr 2012. You can
copy/paste the contents of the text file into a window, making it super easy
to build a collection of systems from a list of system names.

Don't even need the right click tools. Built in add systems to collection tools
in 2012. It will be direct not query though.

I completely agree. I just recently did some work for a Fortune 500
financial company that ended up canceling plans to move to cloud services
for this very reason.

Do the client systems have read access to the System Management container?
From what I'm seeing on Google, 0x80072020 is a permissions-related error.

Client can’t contact AD? Try including the site code and server address in the
command
If you specified the site and MP info in your client install and they still
aren't working, you have a much larger issue. Most likely with your MP(s).

Wmic isn't PowerShell, it's a built in windows command. You will have to turn
that string into a command so that it can use your $computer variable.
Invoke-command or start-process should do the trick.
