My guess is it's either reading WMI or the registry. You might take some registry snapshots before and after plugging in the external USB unit to try and capture that. Then you could export it, run an import before the application install and then run a removal after. Same thing goes for WMI.

yes getting issues with 1st update, was getting the errors in smsts.log mentioned in the KB during the new image I was creating, I've removed it and it worked, just going to test creating it as a package and then in its own TS to see if can still be deployed via a TS or just not via the Install

Nope, unchecking a classification does not remove the metadata for updates in that classification, it just prevent new metadata for that classification from being downloaded. You can *try* the cleanup wizard in WSUS itself which *should* actually remove that metadata and *may* remove them from
