[Mythbuntu-bugs] [Bug 525814] Re: Encoder state code for Recording has changed in 0.22

2010-02-22 Thread MarcRandolph
Howdy, and thank you for helping to improve Mythbuntu. mythtv-status fell
behind on the 9.10 release.
This is resolved for 10.04 with the re-sync to debian, described in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mythtv-status/+bug/455542

It is also available for 9.10 via the Mythbuntu -testing repo, as
described in https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/500396

The encoder state code for Recording in the xml feed has changed from 4 (in
MythTV 0.21) to 6 (in MythTV 0.22)

This causes a display of

mediacenter (1) - 6

instead of

mediacenter (1) - Recording

Here is the fix...

Change line 161 of /usr/bin/mythtv-status to

  '^6$' = ${warning}Recording${normal} },

[Mythbuntu-bugs] [Bug 352077] Re: multiple instances on one box undesirable

2010-02-22 Thread Dave Pusey
I have a genuine need to run multiple frontend processes on my computer.
This worked find under 0.21, but since upgrading to 0.22 i cannot do
this. I suspect this bug fix is what is preventing me from doing it. Is
there a way to override this restriction?

Bug description:
MythTV does not restrict the number of instances of mythfrontend which can run
simultaneously on the same box. There is no particular reason why one box
should run multiple instances simultaneously and this can inadvertently lead to
symptoms like the sound disappearing and performance degradation.

The script or binary which mythfrontend runs should first check to see if the
process already exists and refuse to continue if it does.

Version installed: 0.21.0+fixes18722-0ubuntu1
OS Description: Ubuntu 8.10 (Release: 8.10)

Because MythTV is typically installed on a desktop OS, it is possible for users
to inadvertently trigger multiple instances; some report this happening because
of scripts associated with remote buttons. Rather than fix button scripts, the
process should monitor itself -- unless there's some reason why it would be
desirable for a single box to run multiple instances of the frontend. Again,
I'm not talking about preventing multiple frontends running on multiple boxes,
just limiting each box to one instance each of the frontend.

Re: [Mythbuntu-bugs] [Bug 526037] [NEW] package mythtv-database 0.22.0+fixes22594-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2

2010-02-22 Thread Mario Limonciello
The error here was:

Setting up mythtv-database (0.22.0+fixes22594-0ubuntu1) ...

sed: can't read /etc/mysql/conf.d/mythtv.cnf: No such file or directory

Package mythtv-database is not configured yet.

Did you manually remove this file? The postinst rightfully failed because
it was missing.

**
 SRU Justification
**

** Impact of bug **
The legacy inhibit API was removed from gnome-screensaver, as the gnome-session
inhibit API is the preferred way to inhibit the screensaver. The legacy API
required applications to poll the screensaver regularly to simulate user
activity. The new API requires applications to register inhibitors, which will
exist until they are removed, or the application exits.

xdg-screensaver is used by a lot of desktop-neutral applications including
games and VLC, and this wraps the legacy gnome-screensaver API in GNOME. This
means that screensaver inhibiting is currently broken in GNOME for any
application which hasn't been ported to the new inhibit API.

** Description of changes **
The existing legacy API still exists in gnome-screensaver, but is currently
just a stub. I've added code to this which resets the IDLETIME counter, by
simulating fake keypresses using XTEST. The code is already used in
gnome-session and totem, and this method of resetting IDLETIME is also used in
other applications.

Resetting IDLETIME will prevent gnome-session from setting the session idle
(which prevents the screensaver from activating), and will also prevent
gnome-power-manager from dimming the display.

** Regression potential **
Minimal. The additional functionality is quite self-contained, and the existing
interface doesn't work at all anyway. The chosen method of resetting IDLETIME
is already used.

** TEST CASE **
Using the following versions of gnome-screensaver in turn, perform the steps
detailed below.

PLEASE MAKE SURE that you run killall gnome-screensaver gnome-screensaver
after installing the new version, to ensure that you are testing the new
version.

- 2.28.0-0ubuntu3.1 (karmic-security)
- 2.28.0-0ubuntu3.2 (karmic-proposed)

1) Open gnome-screensaver-preferences, set the timeout to 1 minute and check
Activate screensaver when computer is idle
2) Create a script in your home folder called gss-test.sh, and containing the
following:

   #!/bin/sh

   while true; do
   gnome-screensaver-command --poke
   sleep 30
   done

3) Run the script (sh ~/gss-test.sh), and wait

With version 2.28.0-0ubuntu3.1 of gnome-screesaver, the screensaver will
activate after 1 minute.
With version 2.28.0-0ubuntu3.2, the screensaver will not activate as long as
the script is still running. If you run gnome-power-manager --verbose in a
separate terminal, you will notice the following sequence of messages each time
the IDLETIME counter is reset by gnome-screensaver, which you won't see with
the old version:
