You wouldn't need an OID here, if the SNMP service on the remote box has
failed, then the check_snmp plugin would fail when

Melanie, take a look at nagios-snmp plugins -
http://nagios.manubulon.com/
For example, the custom command in commands.cfg to check for snmpd

I've never seen one and am not aware of any system
You have two ways to to it
1) ./configure --no-ssl
this will cause the configure to not search the ssl module and there for run
with no ssl complied .
2) apt-get install openssl or mod_ssl - not sure about the way debian packages
are .
Install the ssl packages and then rerun the complie
try this:
define command{
command_namehost-notify-by-email
command_line/usr/bin/printf %b * Nagios *\n
\nNotification Type: $NOTIFICATIONTYPE$\nHost: $HOSTNAME$\nState:
$HOSTSTATE$\nAddress: $HOSTADDRESS$\nInfo: $HOSTOUTPUT$\n\nDate/Time:
$LONGDATETIME$\n |

When I have dump the .rrd file it is showing the starting text like

The last value which I have updated was 100 and it is showing it
properly in here. But the other entries around that time is showing as
NAN.
Pls help me if you have

Hi One more information to share.
Instead of passing Max;Avg;Min;Cur value I am passing a single value to
the database is that the issue?
Bcas I want the graph of single value or current value.
Will it work instead of passing values as 100. Shall I pass

I have a bunch of active, and even some passive, alerts that notify
every 'notification_interval' minutes properly until reset by an OK, but
I have on stubborn one.
Below I've provided all the config info that I think is relevant. Also
the entry in service.dat showing an unissued notification.
this is what i'm talking about, I'm not even seeing them in logs, so
nagios itself isn't generating alerts to send out
# grep log_notifications ~nagios/etc/nagios.cfg
log_notifications=1

Hi Dave,
you might try http://www.consol.com/opensource/nagios/check-logfiles
You call it with
check_logfiles --logfile path_to_your_file --criticalpatterns
whatever_you_consider_an_error_message
If the file doesn't exists, you will get at least an UNKNOWN, although you
can add program the plugin
