SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- Teachers, students, tribal leaders and government
officials from Nebraska gathered Friday for the first-ever summit to discuss
improving American Indian education.

"Education is something that can level the playing field for Indian
children," Judi Morgan, director of the Nebraska Indian Commission, told
participants of the Indian Education Summit. "As a single mother of two, I am
very committed to education." At the summit, State Commissioner of Education
Doug Christensen announced the formation of a Native American Education
Advisory Council, which will work to improve American Indian education in
Nebraska. <SNIP>
