This log is meant to be kept by individual students and will move electronically with a student from junior high to freshman building to high school. Several of the categories have pull down menus in the first box in a column. Genre has a pull down menu; there is a column labeled "Code" which is an opportunity for students to indicate the reason for reading (e.g. free, read to, lit circle). Grade is also a pull down and lists only 7-12 as options. Rating is a 1-10 evaluation by the student. The tabs at the bottom of the opening sheet are titled "Statistics" and "Chart." They are self-exlanatory when you click on them. Big League Baseball Hit with Racketeering Lawsuit July 16, 2002 05:47 PM ET <http://www.reuters.com/news_article.jhtml;jsessionid=50OHNT0UJL2IICRBAE KSFEY?type=sportnews&StoryID=1209211> By Jim Loney MIAMI (Reuters) - Fourteen former owners of the Montreal Expos baseball team filed a $200 million fraud and racketeering lawsuit against Major League Baseball executives on Tuesday, alleging they conspired to eliminate big-league ball in Montreal. The lawsuit strikes at the heart of baseball's plan to contract by folding two financially troubled teams, which drew criticism from fans and players and spurred talk Congress would strip baseball of its valuable antitrust exemption. The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Miami, alleged that baseball Commissioner Bud Selig and Florida Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria intentionally undermined the viability of the Montreal Expos franchise. "We allege both the mail-fraud and wire-fraud statutes of the U.S. code have been violated on numerous occasions," said James Quinn, one of the New York lawyers representing the Canadian companies. "That's not to say that there's likely to be a criminal indictment where Bud is walked out in handcuffs." New York Times 14 Companies Alleging Anti-Expos Conspiracy By MURRAY CHASS <http://www.nytimes.com/2002/07/16/sports/baseball/16EXPO.html> The fight over the future of the Montreal Expos has led to a civil lawsuit in which a baseball commissioner is being sued for the first time under the federal racketeering act. Lawyers for 14 prominent Canadian companies, including one owned by the son of the Expos' original owner, Charles Bronfman, said yesterday that they would file a lawsuit in Federal District Court in Miami today against Commissioner Bud Selig, Bob DuPuy, baseball's chief operating officer, and Jeffrey Loria, owner of the Florida Marlins and former managing partner of the Expos.
