Exploding Television - Satellite of Love presents: Sex and Sadness
on Thursday January 26 @ 19.00, 02.00 and 09.00 hrs. Central European Time; and on Friday January 27 to Sunday February 5 @ 16.00, 24.00 and 08.00 hrs Central European Time; on the digital channel of the Satellite of Love's website: www.explodingtelevision.net Sex and Sadness offers eleven video art programs that explore the basic notions of desire and conflict that form the backbone of everyday life. Channelled here through a medium that both mirrors and mangles the way we perceive the world around us, these reflections on and of the absurd and the intimate, the painful and the quotidian, lay bare a series of personal ruminations on that which seems to be represented in the mainstream, but in fact is glaringly absent. Exemplified by the program¹s namesake, a trilogy by the Canadian artist Brian Macdonald, the selected video works provide an emotional and temporal space to contemplate the inspirations and impediments in daily life that are so often taken for granted yet tremendously fundamental - sex and sadness, everything and nothing. The artists propose their own personal and subjective musings on seemingly individual-specific situations, but promote closer, empathetic readings of moments that are more communal than they may appear at first glance. As we struggle to digest the excess of sensations emitted from any and all media that ubiquitously infiltrate our daily activities, and as we become increasingly distanced from our own interpretations of information and experience, the voices that acknowledge and unravel our internal conflicts and questionings become all the more important. As in life, the works in this program offer us the choice to introspectively engage or superficially indulge in the proffered moments, asking us not to blindly adopt their perceptive views but inciting us to create our own.
