GREETINGS FROM JELLYSTONE… Well, momma wasn’t exactly thrilled, but the girls were on cloud nine when the camp ranger let them touch the garden snake she caught...complete with a bulge in the mid-section where some poor field mouse was in the process of being digested. And the girls just HAD to touch it. Along with every caterpillar, butterfly, grasshopper, cricket and worm they come across. I’m assuming that, girls being girls, Kristen and Jenna will eventually grow out of this attraction to creepy-crawlers, but in the meantime...it’s one heck of a “home-school” education on Mother Nature. On the downside, 4-year-old Kristen seems to have found her first “boyfriend,” a nice young 7-year-old kid named Trevor from Virginia. Guess it’s time to start cleaning the shotgun! In “real” news: A News & Views reader advises that cyclist Lance Armstrong may be stripped of his 6th Tour de France title. Seems that in a random check for banned substances, three substances were found in Armstrong's hotel room which are banned by the French: Toothpaste, deodorant, and soap. Caught the end of a Lou Dobbs program on CNN yesterday. Seems the White House might be feeling the pressure over the illegal immigration issue after all. Dobbs reported on a major new Bush administration policy of promptly deporting illegal aliens, announced by border control czar Asa Hutchinson. Unfortunately, there was a lot more smoke than fire to the policy change. It doesn’t apply to any illegal aliens who manage to make it 100 miles beyond our border...or any illegal alien who manages to make it across the border and hide from authorities for more than two weeks...or any illegal aliens from Mexico or Canada. Which narrows it down to approximately...zero, statistically speaking. This is embarrassing and pathetic. THE GOLDWATER DOCTRINE “I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them. It is not to inaugurate new programs, but to cancel old ones that do violence to the Constitution, or that have failed in their purpose, or that impose on the people an unwarranted financial burden. I will not attempt to discover whether legislation is 'needed' before I have first determined whether it is constitutionally permissible. And if I should later be attacked for neglecting my constituents' interests, I shall reply that I was informed their main interest is liberty and that in that cause I am doing the very best I can.” - Barry Goldwater, “The Conscience of a Conservative” ************************* Published by Citizen Outreach Chuck Muth Editor/Publisher 611 Pennsylvania Avenue, SE, #439 Washington, DC 20003-4303 E-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Citizen Outreach is a 501(c)(3) non-profit public policy organization and does not endorse candidates or lobby for specific legislation.
