Why Won't They Just Move On?

"Sen. Hillary Clinton's apocryphal memoir...reminds all serious students of
the Clinton saga that the Clintons never let you down. They are always true
to their nature. They lie. They lie when they do not have to and they
deliver a whopper when a little white lie would suffice. And another thing:
They are not going to move on."

- Columnist R. Emmett Tyrrell Jr.

Re-Run of a Bad Movie

"...I remember seeing this 'Road Map to Peace' thing 10 years ago, when it
was called 'The Oslo Accords.' Though the roles have been recast and the
dialogue updated, it's still the same tired plot: Israelis are urged to make
peace with people who announce they don't want peace, and each time a bomber
underlines the point by blowing up mothers and children in a cafe, some
State Department official comments that this will only make peace more
difficult."

- Columnist Joel Engel of the Weekly Standard

Chain Reaction

"The chain of events began last week with a summit at which Mr. Sharon and
Mr. Abbas promised Mr. Bush to get started on the peace plan. Two days
later, Hamas leader Abdel Aziz Rantisi announced the group was breaking off
truce talks; over the weekend, Islamic militants killed five Israeli
soldiers.

"On Tuesday, Israel launched a missile strike on Mr. Rantisi's car; he was
wounded. Hamas vowed revenge and on Wednesday a Hamas suicide bomber killed
17 persons in Jerusalem. That attack was followed by three rocket strikes
against Hamas fugitives that killed 18 Palestinians in Gaza City."

- Washington Times, 6/13/03

What's Wrong With This Picture?

"On Sunday, Hamas, along with Islamic Jihad, launched another attack on the
Israelis. . . . (T)he Israelis retaliated.(and)...the White House lashed
out - at the Israelis.

"...When American citizens are slaughtered by terrorists at home and we
dispatch troops around the world to eliminate those responsible, that's
justice. When American soldiers are gunned down in Afghanistan and Iraq and
we respond by hunting down the killers, that's justice.

"But when Israeli civilians and soldiers are slaughtered on their own soil
and Israel responds by acting in self-defense - that's inconvenient and
unhelpful."

Upping the Tax Cut Ante

Let's see. Congress, over the objections of most Democrats, cut income
taxes by $350 billion. Democrats followed by demanding an additional $10
billion in federal income tax cuts for people who aren't paying any income
tax - all in the interest of poor children, of course. Naturally,
Republicans in the Senate immediately crumbled like a cookie and hopped on
board without a second thought.

Not so fast, said the more conservative GOP House of Representatives. We're
calling your bluff and want to turn this lemon from the Senate into
lemonade. Instead of simply going along with that puny $10 billion
additional tax cut for people who aren't paying any income taxes to start
with, the House seized the opportunity and countered with a proposal to
increase the increase all the way up to $82 billion in new and additional
tax relief.

At this rate, we'll be up to the President's original $750 billion tax cut
in no time!

Except that the White House appears to be opposed to the House's
new-and-improved super-tax-cut. Go figure.

Huge New Entitlement

"(M)ost Republicans in both the House and Senate are backing a new
entitlement to prescription drugs as part of a $400 billion, 10-year
overhaul of Medicare. 'It's just a huge, huge, huge new entitlement program
in my view, and that's not what we as Republicans should be doing,' said
Arizona Rep. Jeff Flake."

Money Burning Hole in Uncle Sam's Pockets

"President Bush opposed, and then supported, expanding federal spending for
agriculture subsidies. He opposed, and then supported, repeated extensions
of unemployment insurance. He joined with Ted Kennedy in massively
increasing federal spending for education.

"He opposed, and then supported, federalizing tens of thousands of airport
security personnel. He supported billions in subsidies to the airline
industry. He opposed, and then supported, the establishment of a huge and
cumbersome new bureaucracy to oversee homeland security.

"He's pressuring Republican House leaders to support a $10 billion gift to
non-taxpayers in the form of child-tax-credit increases. He opposed, and now
supports, an expensive expansion of the soon-to-be bankrupt Medicare program
to include prescription drug subsidies to all seniors, regardless of ability
to pay.

"Meanwhile, Social Security continues to pile up tens of billions in
obligations, and the president has yet to submit to Congress a long-promised
privatization program - once a domestic priority."

- Columnist Mark Levin in National Review

Goin' Nuclear

"A Democratic filibuster of a Supreme Court nominee is a whole different
matter. If they do that, then that puts us in the position of nuclear
response. What we'd be contemplating is the net effect of shutting down the
Senate for the rest of the year."

test voter support for a possible U.S. Senate campaign. T-shirts,

country songs will be sold on the site, said Mike Ford, his political
adviser. . . . The Democratic candidate will take on incumbent Republican
Sen. George V. Voinovich."

Sweetheart Deal for Daschle's Dame

"Tuesday's New York Times reported on a $20 billion Pentagon plan to lease
air refueling tankers from the Boeing Company. The newspaper cited that
liberal and conservative groups opposed to the arrangement called it a
'sweetheart deal' that must be approved by Congress. The article pointed out
that Boeing has hired lobbyist Linda Daschle, the wife of the Senate
Minority Leader Tom Daschle (D-SD) to represent the company.

"...Linda Daschle's lobbying has long been a source of potential conflict of
interest issues. Her firm's clients include American Airlines, a recent
recipient of billions in taxpayer funds to keep the company in business.
Another client, L-3 International, a manufacturer of baggage screening
equipment, won a lucrative contract from the Federal Aviation Administration
in 2000. Mrs. Daschle had been an official with the FAA before joining the
lobbying firm of Baker, Donelson, Bearman and Caldwell."

What Goes Around, Finally Coming Around

"Rep. Chris Cannon, R-Utah, lost up to $20 million of his net worth last
year - seeing the lion's share of his wealth on paper evaporate, according
to new financial disclosure forms.

"...One of Cannon Industries' investments that caused him public headaches -
and a loss of $1 million - two years ago was a subsidiary called C4, or
Conservative Campaign Consulting and Communications. It sought to make
Internet sites for House members, or conduct online fund-raising for them.
C4 entered the spotlight when one of its consultants, Chuck Muth, complained
that Cannon had promised him $30,000 for work there but stiffed him.

"Muth alleged that C4's seeking work with Cannon's House colleagues created
unethical pressure on those who may need the congressman's vote or help. He
also alleged that Cannon tried to prop up C4 by paying it exorbitant fees
from his own campaign to make it appear successful and possibly attract
other investors."

Gay Marriages in Canada, Eh?

On Tuesday, June 10, 2003, Canada approved gay marriages. On Wednesday,
June 11, Canada was still there. On June 12, the end of the world as we
know it still hadn't occurred. Even Friday the 13th didn't bring about the
destruction of our neighbor to the north. Today, Canadian men and women
will still be getting married, will have kids and go about their lives as
before. Others will do the same tomorrow, and the next day, and the day
after that, and the day after that.

So tell me again what all the hysterics are about?

End of Gay Pride Month

"Gay Pride Month isn't what it used to be. Observed as a near holiday by
federal agencies during the Clinton era, its yearly observances are becoming
an endangered species. . . . Despite repeated requests from homosexual
advocates, the White House has refused to declare June 'gay pride' month.

"...Prior to the Clinton presidency, no federal agencies officially
recognized Gay Pride Month. . . . (W)hen the Bush administration took over
in 2001, the White House said there would be no more pronouncements because
President Bush 'does not believe in politicizing sexual orientation.'"
