Some Are More Equal Than Others

Does anyone else out there get madder than a hornet over those interminably
long lines at the airport, the "take off your shoes" ordeal, and the full
body cavity search if you forget to take a quarter out of your pocket and
set off the friggin' metal detector?

Well, Sen. Tom Harkin, Iowa Democrat, does NOT feel your pain. That's
'cause the rules, which he helped create, apparently don't apply to this
Pampered Prince.

Last Friday, Harkin was late getting to the airport in Washington, DC. Had
he missed his scheduled flight to Des Moines, where he was to appear at a
number of political events, he would have had to take a later one...just
like you or me. Only...he ain't like you or me.

Using his position as a U.S. Senator, reported the Washington Post on
Sunday, Harkin skipped to the front of the line and was ushered past the
rest of the great unwashed who were stuck waiting for their pat-down.

Well, isn't he special?

Got a fun story to tell about YOUR experience with our wonderful new
government-run airport security system? Why not share it with the senator's
staff by picking up the phone and giving him a little "Citizen Outreach."

But let's not waste your call with his DC office, where staffers are fully
experienced in blowing you off or blowing smoke up your skirt. They're
trained and prepared for this sort of thing. Instead, why not contact his
district office in Des Moines and tell 'em how happy you are that he made
his flight...and anything else you might want to share.

I called just now. I'm pretty sure they're not ready for the sort of thing
you all are so good at. The young lady was polite and confirmed the
accuracy of the story. But she's definitely not prepared to handle a bunch
of angry...but not THREATENING or RUDE...calls. (That means you, Harry.)
Just let the senator's staffers know that if YOU have to suffer these
indignities and inconveniences at the airport, so should HE. If he doesn't
like it, then change it for the rest of us, too.

Let's see, that number would be: (515) 284-4574. If you miss them today,
I'm sure they'll be open and waiting for your call tomorrow!
