Thank You!

Gia's dad came out of surgery OK Friday evening and made it through the
critical first 24-hours, so we're entirely hopeful for a full recovery.
THANKS to everyone who kept a kind thought or offered up a prayer to God,
Yahweh, Jehovah, Jesus, Mohammed, Buddha, The Big Kahuna in the Sky or
whoever. It seems all of 'em heard the message!

Also, an apology for getting this out late. Been up all night finishing
"Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix." Anyone want me to ruin it for
you by telling ya which main character bites the dust in the end? Just
kidding. I wouldn't dare. I'd be afraid you'd try to hit me with a
Cruciatus Curse or send the Death Eaters after me!

Who Do You Trust?

"If next year's presidential election is decided on national security
issues, Democrats will lose. But if the economy or some other issue is more
important, Democrats still will lose, if Americans believe Democrats cannot
be trusted to protect the country. When Democrats imply Saddam Hussein is
more trustworthy than George W. Bush, it causes swing voters to think them
untrustworthy in precisely that way."

- Columnist Jack Kelly

Dean Wins! Dean Wins!

Democrat presidential candidate Howard Dean was the going-away winner of
left-wing MoveOn.org's national online primary this week, with 44 percent of
the vote. Coming in second place was Dennis Kucinich with 24 percent of the
vote. Which means over two-thirds of the hard-core lefties who participated
in the primary support the most virulently and irresponsibly anti-war
goofballs in the donkeys' stable. And people wonder why Americans don't
trust the Democrats on national defense?

Well, That Sure Didn't Take Long

"Six years after dropping affirmative action in favor of a so-called
'10-percent solution,' Texas' public university system will work to restore
race as a factor in admissions, with the blessing of the U.S. Supreme
 Court."

- Associated Press, 6/28/03

Um, Yeah...It Is

"The prosecutor tells you that Chante Mallard didn't help Gregory Biggs, so
you shouldn't help her. The prosecutor tells you Chante Mallard didn't give
Gregory Biggs a chance, so you shouldn't give her a chance. The prosecutor
says Gregory Biggs died; she took his life, so you should take hers. Is
that justice?"

- Jeff Kearney, attorney for Chante Mallard, the woman in the "windshield
murder case," arguing against the life sentence handed down by the jury.
Actually, he sort of has a point. If justice had truly been served, Mallard
would have been given a death sentence rather than a life sentence.

FBI Says "Nyet" to Mexican ID Card

"The Matricula Consular card, issued by the Mexican government to Mexicans
living in the United States, 'is not a reliable form of identification' and
poses a criminal and terrorist threat, the FBI has concluded."

- Washington Times, 6/27/03

A Kennedy is a Kennedy

"During his long tenure as a representative from Rhode Island, (Rep.
Patrick) Kennedy has acquired a reputation as an outspoken - or at least
loudmouthed - liberal. He may have officially pushed past the tipping point
to the latter, thanks to some recent tippling. While speaking to a
gathering of Young Democrats earlier this week, Mr. Kennedy slipped up and
said exactly what he thought. 'I don't need Bush's tax cut,' he told the
crowd. 'I have never worked [an expletive deleted] day in my life.'"

- "Nobles & Knaves," 6/28/03

The Right Prescription

Conservative Republicans in the House are pushing for a prescription drug
benefit that would require seniors making over $60,000 a year to pick up
part of the tab rather than creating another universal government
entitlement regardless of income. This is consistent with the conservative
philosophy of using government only to help those who truly cannot help
themselves.

Sen. Ted Kennedy, of course, is opposed to such means testing and is
threatening to kill the drug bill in the Senate. He wants free drugs for
everybody...even wealthy congressmen from Rhode Island who have never worked
a bleeping day in their lives.

Two Peas in a Pod

"Most Americans understand in their guts what too many intellectuals can't
seem to get through their heads: Hamas is no different form al Qaeda."

- Columnist Clifford May

So What?

"Former South African President Nelson Mandela kept up his verbal onslaught
against President Bush yesterday and implied he would not meet Mr. Bush when
he makes his first visit to Africa next month.

"...Mr. Mandela has repeated condemned Mr. Bush over Iraq. In January, he
said the Texan 'cannot think properly' and in Ireland last week he said the
United States and Mr. Bush were dangers to the world."

- Reuters, 6/28/03

Bush-Hating Democrats Unhinged

"(Democrats) look like they're turning into a domestic version of the
Palestinians - a group so enraged at perceived oppressors, and so caught up
in their own victimization, that they behave in ways that are patently not
in their self-interest, and that are almost guaranteed to perpetuate their
suffering."

- Columnist David Brooks

*******************************************
Stupid White Liberal

"Dear Lt. George Bush: It's not the lying and the doctoring of intelligence
that has me all upset. It's that you've had control of Iraq for over two
months now - and you couldn't even find the time to plant just a few nukes
or vats of nerve gas and at least make it LOOK like you weren't lying to us.
You see, by not faking some evidence of weapons of mass destruction, it
shows that you thought no one would mind if it turned out you made
everything up."

- Goofball "filmmaker" Michael Moore

*******************************************
Paranoia Will Destroy Ya

"Has this new era of secrecy, lies and deceit in the government and
corporations started to infect our states, our cities, our communities, our
core values and beliefs? . . .The country sees (President Bush) not telling
the truth. These actions send a message that you don't have to mean what you
say, that you don't have to care about other people, that you can do
whatever you have to do or say whatever you have to say to get ahead."

- Democrat "strategist" Barbra Streisand

Playing Hooky

If you were an employer or a teacher, how would you handle this? Sen. John
Kerry, Massachusetts Democrat and presidential candidate, has missed 47
percent of the votes taken this year in the Senate, according to a roll call
tally published this week by the Republican National Committee. His fellow
presidential aspirants ain't doin' much better. Sen. Joe Lieberman has
missed 34 percent; Sen. John Edwards has missed 18 percent; and Sen. Bob
Graham has missed 17 percent.

But the king of absentee legislators is Rep. Dick Gephardt, who has missed a
staggering 88 percent of House votes.

Actually, considering how they vote, this might not be such a bad thing.

Ike Wannbe

Gen. Wesley Clark is best known for his regular and faulty criticisms of the
recently-won Iraq war as a studio analyst. What he desperately *wants* to
be known for, however, is the Democrat's version of Dwight D. Eisenhower,
riding his military pedigree all the way into he White House. He hopes the
donkeys won't be able to settle on a consensus candidate to take on
President Bush by the end of the summer and turn to him to save the day.

Political analyst Stuart Rosenberg says there's "no reason at all" to take
Clark seriously...something any of us watching him during the Iraq war
already knew. "It's an entertaining scenario," continues Rosenberg, "even
if it is silly and farfetched." Rosenberg concludes, "He simply isn't
Eisenhower. Not even close."

On the other hand, he did defeat Hillary Clinton and Al Gore in the tally of
write-in candidates in MoveOn.org's online primary this week.

Ridiculing the Ridiculous

Food companies under assault by unscrupulous trial lawyers are striking back
by ridiculing attorneys who, in recent months, have filed a series of
lawsuits against everything from Big Macs to Oreo cookies.

In a new TV ad by the Center for Consumer Freedom, a trial lawyer is seen
grilling a defendant on the witness stand. "So you sold my client these
chocolate chips - and look - no warning labels on the box! Just pretty
pictures. You make them taste good, don't you?"

"I guess so," replies a little 7-year-old Girl Scout.

Case closed.

Some Diversity Is More Equal Than Others

"After all, if diversity were really the issue (behind using racial
discrimination in college admissions), wouldn't we be fighting all the
historically black and all-female colleges that currently deny their
students the glorious educational benefits a diverse student body provides?"

- Columnist Jonah Goldberg

Nice White Ladies

"There are two kinds of Nice White Ladies. One means well, the other is just
mean.

"(Supreme Court Justice) Sandra Day O'Connor no doubt means well, but her
prescription for suspending the Constitution for 25 years to do something
nice for 'the colored folks' is a prescription for disaster, first of all
for aspiring blacks.

"Maureen Dowd, the columnist for the New York Times, is just mean. Her
denunciation of Justice Clarence Thomas as 'barking mad' is mean-spirited
racism, because she means to put him in his place for not tugging at his
forelock and accepting with gratitude all the nice things white liberals
like Miss Maureen have done for him."

- Wesley Pruden, "Pruden on Politics," 6/27/03

Choosey Mothers Choose Kids

"Guess what? For the first time since the '50s, stay-at-home moms are on
the rise. Ten and a half million children have full-time stay-at-home moms,
up 13 percent over the last decade, according to the Census Bureau.

"...A funny thing seems to have happened on the way to the gender
revolution. But what exactly? Were not full-time mothers supposed to have
disappeared by the 21st century? Does not research show most children in
day care to fine? Why would any modern woman choose to stay home with her
kids?

"...I have nothing against working mothers. I am one. But something in me
rejoices to see the deeply countercultural impulse of motherhood rising and
winning over mere economic forces."

- Columnist Maggie Gallagher

So Much for Reefer Madness

"Smoking marijuana will certainly affect perception, but it does not cause
permanent brain damage, researchers from the University of California at San
Diego said yesterday in a study...into the longterm recreational cannabis
use on the neurocognitive ability of adults."
