********************************* Yeah, That's Pretty Much It "Democrats raise taxes. It's their way of paying for programs that buy votes from people who don't pay high taxes." - Detroit News columnist Pete Waldmeir ************************************ Telephone, Television & Tell-a-Friend If you know someone who might like to join the growing army of conservatives (and a few Palm Beach Democrats) who receive our FREE Chuck Muth's News & Views briefings, just go to http://www.chuckmuth.com. ********************************** Conservatives Are From Mars, Liberals Are From Uranus The Difference Between The Liberal and Conservative "Debate" Over The War On Terrorism: Question: You're walking down a deserted street with your wife and two small children. Suddenly, a dangerous looking man with a huge knife comes around the corner and is running at you while screaming obscenities. In your hand is a .357 Magnum and you are an expert shot. You have mere seconds before he reaches you and your family. What do you do? Liberal Answer: Well, that's not enough information to answer the question! You're looking for simple solutions to complex issues. * Does the man look poor or oppressed? * Have I ever done anything to him that is inspiring him to attack? * Could we run away? * What does my wife think? * What about the kids? * Could I possibly swing the gun like a club and knock the knife out of his hand? * What does the law say about this situation? * Is it possible he'd be happy with just killing me? * Does he definitely want to kill me or would he just be content to wound me? * If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me? This is all so confusing! I need to debate this with some friends for a few days to try to come to a conclusion. Conservative Answer: Shoot the son of a bitch! Then take your family to a baseball game, eat some hot dogs with apple pie, sing the national anthem, go to church and praise the Lord for one more day of freedom. - Author unknown ********************************* McCain Unplugged "(Arizona Republican Sen.) John McCain earned applause from the 'Saturday Night Live' audience during a skit in which he sang, very badly, some stanzas from Barbra Streisand songs mixed in with some zingers at Streisand for making political pronouncements. When even New Yorkers laugh and applaud hits on a liberal activist like Streisand, you know most find her annoying." - Brent Baker, Media Research Center ********************************* Ah, Your Tax Dollars At Work "The State Department official who was forced to retire because her office allowed most of the September 11 hijackers into the United States has won an 'outstanding performance' award of $15,000. The bonus to Mary Ryan, the former head of the State Department's consular service, was awarded for the period beginning April 16, 2001 - nearly five months before the suicide attacks - and ending April 15, 2002." - Washington Times, 10/23/02 ********************************* Dynamic Duo After reading my post on Monday of the Denver Post editorial on GOP Rep. Tom Tancredo of Colorado, conservative civil rights activist Ward Connerly - the man whose Proposition 209 successfully ended affirmative action in college admissions in that state a few years ago - sent the good congressman a very supportive note, which he was kind enough to share with me. Man, if these two guys ever get together, Lord help the left. It'd be well worth the price of admission! ********************************* Outreached Hand Gets Slapped Away "President Bush's courting of Teamsters and other unions has not stopped them from giving cash and endorsements almost exclusively to Democrats, including Florida Gov. Jeb Bush's opponent. . . . White House officials acknowledge they were not pleased when the Teamsters recently endorsed Democrat Bill McBride over the president's brother in the Florida governor's race." - Bill Sammon, Washington Times, 10/23/02 ********************************* Charity Begins at Home "We certainly don't disagree with a political strategy that will encourage some unions to support the president. But before courting the unions, you should take care of your base." - Sean Doherty, executive director, Merit Shop Roundtable, Washington Times, 10/23/02 ********************************* Majority Politics 101 "There are groups within the Republican party who would rather see a moderate Republican lose to a Democrat than to be elected and not toe the Party Line. There is even a term for this: RINO - Republican In Name Only - which is not used as a compliment. "Not to be outdone, there are moderate Republicans who would rather vote for a Democrat than see a Conservative be elected. Republicans in New Jersey and California come to mind. "The very nature of being a majority party means it has to accept - not agree with, but accept - people who do not think alike, speak alike, or - dare we say it - look alike." - Rich Galen, Mullings, 10/23/02 ********************************* To Tell The Truth I had lunch yesterday afternoon with a gentleman named Lester Searer from York, Pennsylvania who shared with me some newspaper clippings he'd been saving on various issues. I was particularly struck by two quotes he'd saved by two big-time Democrats a few years back. First was Sen. Chris Dodd, then general chairman of the Democrat National Committee, on the Don Imus show just before the 1996 elections: "Eight more days and I can start telling you the truth. It's killing me, I'll tell you. I gotta lie (through) my teeth to you every time I come on this show. It's driving me nuts." Seems the ability to lie through one's teeth at election time is a prerequisite for being the DNC chief. Just look at some of the outrageous things coming out of current DNC boss Terry McAuliffe these days. But it appears whether or not to tell the truth was a gut-wrenching moral dilemma for Democrats during the Clinton years, up and down the ladder, election or not. The Pacific Legal Foundation newsletter featured this telling 1999 quote from then-EPA administrator Carol Browner: "Are we going to tell the American people the truth or are we not going to tell the truth? Now, that is the process we are involved in, and I don't think any of us have been far enough into it to reach a conclusion." The more things change... ********************************* Clinton Democrats: The Next Generation "Children today are more likely to cheat, steal and lie than youths 10 years ago, research (by the Josephson Institute of Ethics) shows. . . . 'The scary thing is that so many kids are entering the work force to become corporate executives, politicians, airplane mechanics and nuclear inspectors with the dispositions and skills of cheaters and thieves,' (JIE president Michael Josephson) said." - Washington Times, 10/23/02 ********************************* Sniperville, USA "Because at least 12 persons in the (Washington, DC) metropolitan area have been shot by the sniper and nine have died, there is about a 1-in-357,692 chance of being shot by the sniper and a 1-in-465,000 chance of being killed, based on the number of shootings and the total population. "That compares to the 1-in-400 chance of dying of a heart attack this year, the one-in-5,304 chance of dying in a fall, the 1-in-5,877 chance of dying in a car accident and the 1-in-81,487 chance of dying in a house fire." - Washington Times, 10/23/02 ********************************* Conservative Books for Your Christmas List "When I Was a Kid, This Was a Free Country" - G.
