I just decided to install a new version of Context.
It gets stuck! Please, help me out.
texexec --make en
worked normally.

You have created a new cont-en.fmt you say, but is not used:
ConTeXt ver: 2004.11.23 fmt: 2005.3.13

I now carefully examined the position of the file.
The command
texexec --make has the following result (see log file).
My test file does not process.

suggesting, based on the log file I sent him, that the ushyphmax file in
my system could be in the wrong format. It was wrong indeed.
It should contain the string \pattern{ ... patterns ... }.
