I just updated my TeX (and ConTeXt) tree, based on the
linuxtex.zip file at
http://www.pragma-ade.com/download-1.htm, at
/usr/local/share/tex from about the August version and
after a few minor tweaks I've got it working. No other
TeX stuff is installed on my Gentoo system. One big
problem:

I used to work around that by defining a layer on top of the
enumerations that always define the enumeration's settings
on the fly. Quite inefficient, but it worked

I remember though the discussion on this topic. Therefore I did not
mention it. - Yes I imported my patch from an old page-imp.tex and it
worked without problems in the latest version of Context.
