I just noticed that in the preprocessing manual, the single quotes
are wrong. Look at the output of
\starttext
\starttyping
let a = 'string' ;
\stoptyping
\mono{ let a = 'string' ;}
{\tt let a = 'string' ;}
\stoptext
The singlequote character is converted into rightquote. This
